Carta Abierta por la Ciencia en España/Open Letter for Science in Spain

Por su interés, llamo vuestra atención sobre esta Carta Abierta por la Ciencia en España, un nuevo llamamiento contra la equivocada política investigadora del gobierno español.

Esta Carta Abierta es un documento consensuado por la Confederación de Sociedades Científicas de España, la Conferencia de Rectores de las Universidades Españolas, la plataforma Investigación Digna, la Federación de Jóvenes Investigadores, CCOO y UGT. Será entregada, junto con los nombres de los firmantes, al Presidente del Gobierno Español, a los miembros del Congreso y el Senado y a los Presidentes de las Comunidades Autónomas.

A continuación, pongo el final de la carta que resume el espíritu de la misma, cuyo texto completo puede visualizarse aquí:

"... Los líderes políticos deberían ser coherentes con el mensaje que están enviando a la sociedad española y a otros países e inversores: no pueden mantener la retórica del cambio a un modelo productivo basado en el conocimiento, mientras que todos los pasos que dan van en la dirección opuesta, produciendo irremediablemente un grave daño a corto y largo plazo a la infraestructura científica y su capital humano que sólo puede resultar en una economía de conocimiento “prestado” que alberga pocos expertos locales. “Si el conocimiento te parece caro, prueba con la ignorancia” (Derek Bok)"

I want to draw your attention to the Open Letter for Science in Spain, a new appeal against the Spanish government's wrong research policy.

This Open Letter is the result of a consensus between the Confederation of Spanish Scientific Societies, the Conference of Spanish University Chancellors, the grassroots Investigación Digna, the Federation of Young Researchers and the largest trade unions in Spain Comisiones Obreras and Unión General de Trabajadores. It will be delivered, together with the names of the signees, to the Spanish Prime Minister, the members of the Spanish Congress and Senate and the Presidents of the Autonomous Communities.

The final part of the letter (it can be read in full here) that summarizes the spirit of the initiaive:

"... Political leaders must be coherent with the message they are sending to the Spanish society and to other countries and investors: they cannot keep the rhetoric of change to a knowledge-based economy, while every step they take is in the opposite direction, producing inevitably serious short and long-term damage to the scientific infrastructure and its human resource that can only lead us to a knowledge-borrowed economy with little know-how. “If you think education is expensive, try ignorance” (Derek Bok)."
